Perfect Practice Prevents Poor Performance

I learned this alliterative phrase from a good friend and mentor in network marketing.  My Mom told me “Practice Makes Perfect”. She was talking about practicing piano (ugh!) but basically she was right, particularly when it comes to my business, Network Marketing.

We must practice our craft for several reasons:

  1. Obtain a comfort level with our information
  2. Prospects can sense a comfort level in us. Let’s face it, it is imperative that the prospect sees and senses our comfort with the message because they need to visualize that they can do exactly what we are doing with no anxiety, no embarrassment and no difficulty.
  3. Leadership – setting a good example for our teams
  4. Success – the key to success is self confidence and the key to self confidence is practice.

I have posted my very first ever video blog and I would be pleased to hear your comments. Please watch the video below.

Make it a better than terrific day because you absolutely deserve it!

The Law of Diminishing Intent – Stuck in The Waiting Place

I had never heard of the wonderful little book  Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss, perhaps because I don’t have children.  I heard about it recently in business meeting and when I returned home I got a copy of the book and have read it several times. It is applicable to everyone, regardless of what age kid you are.

In this short book Dr. Seuss captures the ebb and flow of life, the good times and the bad. His words typify the challenges, heartache and fear we all experience as well as periods of great success and exhilaration. For most people the times of heartache, challenge and fear seem to overshadow the periods of success.

Dr. Seuss talks about the “waiting place”.  This perfectly describes the Law of Diminishing Intent which is The longer you wait to do something the less enthusiasm you will have for it. The Waiting Place is a place where many of us unintentionally spend a good part of our lives. This is probably because we don’t realize the pitfalls of waiting and the Law of Diminishing Intent.  Waiting develops an inertia of its own, and Newton’s Law takes over; objects that are at rest stay at rest while objects in motion stay in motion. Even though waiting is a most uncomfortable spot we tend, over time to become comfortable with our discomfort.

“Simple it’s not, I’m afraid you will find,

For a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.

You can get so confused that you’ll start in to race down long wiggling roads in

a break-necking pace and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,

headed, I fear, towards a most useless place.

                                                                                                                                                              The Waiting Place . . .

       . . . For people just waiting.

Waiting for a train to go,

or a bus to come or a plane to go

      or the mail to come,

or the rain to go, or the snow to snow or

waiting around for a YES or a NO

or waiting for their hair to grow.

     Everyone is just waiting.

Waiting for fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite,

or waiting around for Friday night or waiting,

perhaps for their Uncle Jake, or a pot to boil,

or a Better Break or a string of pearls,

or a pair of pants or a wig with curls or Another Chance.

Everyone is just waiting. NO! That’s not for you!”

Or is it?

So what are you waiting for, a Better Break or Another Chance?  We make the better breaks and second chances by our decisions.  It is a choice pure and simple.  BUT once you make that choice you MUST take ACTION. There are 4 keys to prevent being ensnared by the Law of Diminishing Intent. Avoid these common  pitfalls and wealth can be yours. Passion, Persistence and Wealth

I have found that can exercise longer when I have something to divert my attention off of my aching body.  Although I have recently been on a “TV fast” I allow myself the pleasure of watching a DVD when I am working out. This week I watched Dreamer, a fun movie about a kid and a horseThe story is loosely based on the career of Maria’s Storm, a 4- year old filly who had the courage to come back after a fractured cannon bone, a severe and sometimes fatal break.

As the story unfolds we see a father who has given up on his career as a horseman and a little girl who is starved for her dad’s attention and affection. They manage to save a filly from being euthanized after breaking her leg during a race at the cost of the dad’s job. It is this point that the seed of a dream is planted in the child. It becomes quickly evident that the little girl has not yet lost her ability to dream and believe despite the seemingly hopeless situation.

So what did she do? She achieved, she won a great race and tremendous wealth.  How did she achieve?  1. Passion for her mission: to save her horse, to obtain her father’s attention and to win. 2. Persistence and sacrifice: she got up at 4:50 AM, enlisted her dad for his advice and expertise, and when folks told her there was no chance or tried to bully her she believed anyway 3. Courage and ingenuity:  at school she wrote a story about a king (her dad) and her horse, she pooled resources, sought knowledge from experts, and leveraged relationships. These are the exact steps that will bring our dreams to fruition.

In addition to the above there is one more element required for success. It is exemplified in these few words: “Remember dreams Ben? Well this one is Cale’s, help her live it.”  By helping someone else achieve their heart’s desire, we will achieve ours, guaranteed.

So be a dreamer, develop a focused BURNING DESIRE so that this desire can, when fueled by deliberate and single-minded action, become reality.

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” Napoleon Hill

What If . . .?

What if you were rich, what would you do? What if you were beautiful/handsome, would you have more advantages? What if your batting average was .358, how would your life change? We all dream dreams of being better, happier, healthier and wealthier.

Before North Carolina got a lottery my husband and I would occasionally drive to Virginia and buy a few tickets. The most we ever won was $100.00 but we had lots of fun dreaming and hoping.  What I know now is that we were not actually dreaming, we were merely wishing. Wishing is easy, it is simply a hopeful thought. Dreaming puts emotion into wishing and can, with effort, become a focused BURNING DESIRE so that this desire can, if fueled by deliberate and single-minded action, become reality. (Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich)

I recently learned that out of 100 folks who reach 65, 1 will be wealthy, 4 will be financially fit, 5 still work, 28 are dead and 68 are flat broke and unable to write a check for $500.00. These statistics are quoted from the IRS and Association on Aging. I first learned of this from Mark Januszewski and I was appalled by these figures. I guess that I should not be surprised as we (in the US anyway) seem to live in an entitlement society. Do you think that the government is going to bail you out?  Do you hope that you can live on your Social Security check, if Social Security is even solvent when you reach retirement age? What is your plan for retirement?  The average person will receive about 60% of their current paycheck on Social Security.  If you are finding that you are running out of money before you run out of month, how will you manage to live on 40% less?

So what can you or, more importantly what will you do? This is pretty salty stuff and the answers are not easy. Do you take action or continue with the status quo?  I’m not going to give you obvious answers like save more and spend less, get an extra job, have a garage sale, pay off your credit cards, etc, etc. Although these actions are all worthwhile they are like taking an aspirin for a brain tumor, it might help your headache short term but will not solve the problem. Interestingly, both the problem and the solution lie within you, between your ears.

So what is the formula for success, for wealth?

The truth is truly amazing in its simplicity. The real truth is that we ALL can change our lives for the better and soar as high as we can dream  This truth is the great equalizer; this opportunity is the same for all. It does not require a college degree, it is not limited by one’s age, race, sex or social status. BUT – Dreaming is more than merely hoping and wishing. True dreaming requires much more, and the realization of a dream is hard work.  It requires looking DEEP inside yourself identifying EXACTLY what you want and then describing your dream in great detail. Finally, you must be willing to pay the price for your dream and that requires taking action and making personal sacrifices. (Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich)

So you are not the smartest, prettiest, wealthiest, most athletic, SO WHAT? You have the power to become whatever you want. I don’t know about you but I have made a conscious choice, and I choose to be healthy and wealthy.

I no longer say, WHAT IF . . . ?  Instead I say, I AM . . .!

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” Napoleon Hill
